It's a new electrical component that can "remember" how much electricity has passed through it. There's an article on PC World if I can find it...

Ahh, so a resistor that can store its previously applied electrical state? I definitely see the benefits of this. One use would be to develope a new type of RAM. Program the OS to shut down in it's current state, and the RAM would hold that state indefinitely. Turning on the computer would result in instant OS boot as if it was never shut off.

Yes. That's what I've heard they were hoping for. These things are also TINY. I think I read that they were about 6-7 nanometers big. So these things have the potential to create handheld computers that turns on immediately.
